 William Daniels and Bonnie Bartlett’s son Robert once went missing as a kid while they were at a New York public beach. Bartlett was paralyzed with fear, but a woman (who remained her friend) comforted her by telling the star that no one would take the child.

The woman who became her friend offered to find Robert while her mother stayed put She kept her word and fifteen minutes later, the woman returned with a police car and her son Robert. The actress confessed that it was a horrible incident, adding that it was devastating for a parent to experience.

Narrating the incident, she said- “I was paralyzed with fear. I didn’t know what to do. I was with this woman who’s my friend to this day. Give her a crisis and there’s no one who’s better. She said, ‘No one will take him, stay here with the kids, – Bartlett told the Pittsburgh Post-gazette in 1987– “I’ll find him.’Fifteen minutes later, she came back with a police car and there was Bobby. It was horrible, what I went through, the thought that I might never see him again. It’s a devastating thing for a parent.“

Despite having some normal parental challenges here and there with the children, Bartlett described her husband as an impressive parent, she also told  PEOPLE that William Daniels was a great father– “So I honestly would say that and being a great father – he’s a great father.“- she said.
